About Kate

Kate McElhiney is a Brooklyn Heights based interior designer focused on comfortable, stylish homes that reflect each client’s individual tastes in addition to the project’s location and historical context. Her work has included apartments and houses in New York City and the surrounding areas, as well as Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.

Growing up with an architect father and a painting conservator mother in New York City, Kate honed a sense of creativity and an eye for detail from an early age. Her love of the arts extends to her own painting practice, into which she draws inspiration from layered and cultivated interiors.

She learned invaluable skills while working for AD100 architect Peter Pennoyer from 2019-2021 and the inimitable Kari McCabe from 2015-2019.

Kate has a B.A. in Architecture from Colby College. She received her M.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute in 2023.
